Stuffed Cheese Bread with Leek and Onion - This is how you do it!

This week we have another treat for you! Not a standard appetizer, but a crusty, warm bread packed with creamy cheese - perfect for sharing with friends or family during a cozy weekend. 😍🧀

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 leek, cut into thin rings
  • Olive oil Sardia
  • 300 ml skimmed milk
  • 100 g grated mozzarella
  • 100 g grated cheddar
  • 50 g grated "queijo da ilha" (or aged cheese)
  • 1 uncut round bread
  • Fresh chives, cut into thin rings
  • Salt, pepper and nutmeg (to taste)

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  • Heat the olive oil in a pan and sauté the garlic in it.
  • Add the onion and leek and fry until soft.
  • Cut off the top of the bread and carefully hollow out the inside.
  • Add the milk to the pan and season with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg.
  • Add the mozzarella, cheddar and queijo da ilha and stir until a creamy cheese sauce forms (save a little of each type of cheese). Also add the inside of the bread and stir well.
  • Fill the bread with the warm cheese mixture. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top of the bread and garnish with the chopped chives.
  • Place the bread in the oven for 10 minutes until the crust is crisp and the cheese is bubbling.
  • Serve immediately, with pieces of the hollowed-out bread to dip in the cheese.

Enjoy your meal! 🏡👩‍🍳

Bom apetite!
